Colonel Juha Helle is serving as a Defense, Military, Naval and Air Attaché to the United States of America and Canada since August 2022. He is stationed at the Embassy of Finland in Washington, D.C.

COL Helle has spent most of his career in the Army Combat Engineer Core having his last position as the Inspector of the Core. Within this field, he has commanded number of units and has been an instructor at different academic levels for younger officers. He is qualified in mobility measures (i.e. bridge and road construction, water crossing) as well as in counter mobility measures (i.e. mine laying). He is also qualified in Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) and CBRN warfare.

Col Helle has served a total of 7 years abroad including operations in Bosnia, Kosovo, Lebanon and Afghanistan. He has served in NATO Headquarters for three years in the Operations Division with a focus on NATO´s Crisis Response System.

Col Helle served as commandant of the Military Academy in 2018 -2020 and he has a degree in pedagogy.

COL Helle was promoted to his current rank in 2018. His military decorations include Commander of the Order of the Lion of Finland, Medal for Military Merits, Medal for Frontier Guard Merits, Medal for Combat Engineer Merits with clasp, NATO medals for Bosnia, Kosovo and Afghanistan and UN medal for Lebanon.

COL Helle is married to Anne Helle with two children (b. 2000 and 2002). His hobbies include Tennis, squash and cross-country skiing.
